The Patriotism Party is still on for this Saturday

Patriotism Party – Saturday, August 18 – hosted by the Grahams

On August 18, the Grahams will host a Patriotism Party honoring our military, past and present.  It will be a hot dog feast with pot luck items being added by the members.  It is being requested that any pot luck  desserts be apple pie.

PYC members who have served in the military are asked to bring pictures or memorabilia from their time of service.  A flyer describing the Patriotic Party is posted below:

Gilligan’s Island Beach Party this Saturday night – Don’t miss it!

Beach Party – Saturday, August 4 – hosted by the Drayers and Brinkmeyers

The first party of August will be the Gilligan’s Island Beach Party hosted by the Drayers and the Brinkmeyers. This will be a really fun event. Dress as any Gilligan’s Island character: Gilligan, the Skipper, the Professor, Thurston Howell III, Lovey, Ginger, or Mary Ann. Or you might consider coming as any of the other characters discovered on the island: a chimp, frog, Japanese sailor, aviator, etc. Don’t miss this fun party, complete with Tiki lamps and our own authentic beach.

Christmas in July, 2012 was a steamin’ good time

“As long as you don’t move it really doesn’t seem that hot.” (infamous quote from the Christmas in July Party)

Approximately 50 people enjoyed a pot luck dinner followed by a white elephant gift exchange. It’s always amazing what wonderful gifts PYC members come up with. Some will undoubtedly be regifted next year.

Unfortunately the famous shower curtain did not appear this year but hopefully we will see it next year.  Things just didn’t seem the same without it.

Though it was steamy hot everyone enjoyed the evening. Thank you Terri Tilford and Penny Morgan for hosting the party. The decorations were great and the Charlie Brown Christmas tree was perfect to put our presents around.

Christmas in July is gonna fly!

The Christmas in July party is gonna fly!  It’s scheduled for July 21 at 6 p.m., thanks to hosts Terri Tilford and Penny Morgan!

As hosts of Christmas in July Penny and Terri didn’t have to cook turkey or dressing for the entire club.  They didn’t have to cook even a morsel.   They will just need to put up a few Christmas decorations and a tree (we have one in storage at PYC) and Christmas in July will take shape.

For details, check out the party flyer.  Ho ho ho hope you can make this wild and crazy holiday party!

And please consider hosting a party. If you have questions call Shirley (913-492-4304 or 913-284-8822) or Lisa at (913-649-8951 or 913-748-9939).

Christmas In July?????????

The Christmas in July party is scheduled for July 21, but so far no one has volunteered to sponsor this fun party.

Please volunteer or we won’t have any party on July 21.  As host of Christmas in July you don’t have to cook turkey and dressing for all of our club members.  You don’t have to cook even a morsel.   It would be great to make this a pot luck dinner with families bringing their favorite Christmas dish. As host you would just need to put up a few Christmas decorations and a tree (we have one in storage at PYC) and Christmas in July will take shape.

Please consider hosting this party – it is really one of the best of the season. If you have questions call Shirley (913-492-4304 or 913-284-8822) or Lisa at (913-649-8951 or 913-748-9939).  Or even better, call them and offer to host Christmas in July!

From your PYC Social Co-Chairs: Memorial Day was a huge success!

Q:  What do 2 tents, 88 extra chairs, 11 extra tables, 47 chickens, a fabulous band, and 230 PYC members make?
A:   A very successful Memorial Day Party!

This year’s Memorial Day party was one of the biggest parties ever at PYC.  We estimate that 230 people were served.   The evening was perfect.  We started out with the pot luck supper with fantastic smoked chicken and fabulous pot luck dishes.  We are so grateful to Jim North and Mij Frierson for smoking 47 chickens all day on Sunday.  Thanks to both of them.

After we cleared the tables for the dance floor, Brett Overholter’s band (a PYC member) started playing and the dancing began.   Brett picked out songs especially for PYC because he knows the music we love to dance to.  The dance floor was busy most of the evening with dancers young and old.

We want to thank all who helped make the evening a success: Jim and Mij for cooking, Eileen Koutelas for helping host the party, the teenagers who put up the tables and chairs, and the members who gathered around in the kitchen cutting the smoked chicken for the pot luck.

Now we need volunteers to host additional parties throughout the season – and hosting a party is not difficult at all.  After the July 4th Party (actually held on July 7th), we’ll have lots of opportunities for members to host.  If we don’t have hosts for scheduled parties they won’t happen.  Please contact Lisa Hockenberg or Shirley Cline to learn about hosting a party.

Thanks!

Shirley and Lisa

Memorial Day Party – Start your season with a big celebration and live music at PYC

Memorial Day is just around the corner so get ready to sail and party over the holiday weekend.  A big celebration with live music, hosted by Eileen Koutelas. is scheduled for Sunday, May 27.

We’ll start with a pot luck dinner at 6 p.m.. Bring your favorite dish to share.  PYC will provide beer and other drinks but we’ll also will provide chicken to complete the meal. This chicken will be smoked by our own PYC chefs – thanks to Jim North for volunteering to be head chef.

At 8 p.m. live music by PYC’s own Bret Oberholtzer’s band will begin and we’ll dance the evening away.

In order to be sure we have enough chicken, please RSVP to this event (in the “Comment” box below) so we will know how much chicken to buy.  It was very helpful to have RSVPs for our Cinco de Mayo so please help us again by RSVPing before Saturday, May 26.

There are more than 200 PYC members and guests who have RSVP’d and are coming  the party. Reservations are now closed.

Thanks!

Shirley and Lisa
